2021 Carmelite Fair

Dear friends of Carmel,

The Peace of Christ!

We would like to extend a sincere thank you for your concern as you have awaited an announcement about this year’s Fair. As you know, there has been significant progress with respect to the vaccinations and the lowering of positive cases across the state. The public policy has also adapted to these improvements and by the grace of God, we are beginning to see real signs that at some point in the future, we may all get back to the normal patterns of life.

It is with great regret that we must share with you that we have determined that postponing the Carmelite Fair for this year is inevitable. As you may already know, the planning and execution of our Fair requires the dedication and commitment of a large community of dedicated volunteers. In normal years, we begin our planning work in late winter and early spring. The preparation work, permitting, insurance applications, donation request and fundraising for the successful marketing of the Car requires a fulltime effort which we cannot catch up with at this point. Although it does appear that we are heading toward a more open public policy, it is still not possible to accurately determine what that policy will look like as we approach a proposed Fair date. Even if all restrictions are lifted, it is challenging to predict how people’s behavior will translate into our Fair’s attendance.

We so appreciate all the expression of your love and support for all of us here at the Monastery. Especially, we ask God to reward you for your donations last year when we had to cancel the September fundraiser. As you know, the Fair is the main source of income for our Community; and it is your generous support which enables us to continue to live our contemplative life. We would like to assure you of our continued prayers for you and your loved ones. Our Salt Lake community of 13 cloistered Carmelite nuns remain faithful to our posts, to our life of intercessory prayer on your behalf, and for the world. Day and night in Carmel we work, pray and remember all of you in our hearts and prayers.

Hopefully, the Fair will be a reality once more in 2022. Meanwhile, we hope and pray for your continued support. We feel truly blessed by the love and devotion you give us so unselfishly, and we say to you from the bottom of our hearts – “God reward you!” If you wish to support us, please consider a direct gift to our Carmel at the above address. Online donations are appreciated as well. Thank you. May God bless you.
